So it all started when I was in China last September. We
were walking to hotel lobby after dinner, on the way to catch a fountain show a
distance away. Talking to the person next to me, I didn’t realize there was a
step and twisted my ankle. Well I didn’t fall onto the floor. But I was caught
off-guard and stumbled and when I tried to stand properly, I could feel the all
too familiar loose feeling of a sprained foot. Ah crap! Of all times to sprain
my foot >_<” So since I was the first
aider (what a big joke!) I hurried onto the sofa and applied first aid on me
and bandaged the foot immediately. Asked the hotel for ice but they had none
cos the restaurant had closed for the night. -_-“
Didn’t want to be a wet blanket and stay at the hotel so I
went along with the group since it was just a fountain show. Took my time and
slowly hobbled up the bus and it was still bearable. We returned to the hotel
within a couple of hours. So un-bandaged my foot which I had nicknamed zhu jiao
by now. Went out to do room inspection on the kids together with my buddy. I didn’t
want her to go around alone and I didn’t want to stay in the room alone LOL! So
we were kept busy for quite a while scolding all the hyper kids. Just as we
went back to our room to shower and retire for the night, we get a call to say
a kid was down with fever. So off went buddy, me and zhu jiao to the kid’s room.
Brought the kid back to our room and being the first aider, did the necessary.
I offered to sleep on the floor since I needed to elevate my foot.
One night of
elevating the foot and the next morning I woke up thinking it shud be much
better. WRONG!! I took more than 20 mins just to place the foot on the floor
and I wasn’t even putting any weight on it!!!! It was the worst pain I had ever
experienced. Even the 4 injections to d head I had before was not as bad as
this!!! Should have realized something was terribly wrong but the never say die
attitude took over and I hobbled ard getting ready for the day. The trip ended
after another 3 days. But not before I walked around the schools there, went
shopping for books and the most epic 6/7km trek up to a waterfall to get to a
resort for lunch. Felt duty-bound to go along for the trek since it was highly
likely that first aid would be necessary. So went slow and was the last with a
couple of kids. Thank goodness for the non-athletic kids and the kid who had a
fear of heights! I went very very slow. But still, the first 30 mins of the
trek were excruciating! It was so painful I became numb to the pain after half
an hr. On a side note, thank goodness I went along cos 3 kids fell and 2
sprained their foot too! So I came down from d waterfall with a three little
pigs clan.
To cut the long story short, endured the pain cos I didn’t want
to get my foot twisted ard in the name of TCM. Came back with the foot still
swollen and did home remedy till the swelling finally went away :)
