the funny library sign

I saw this sign at Jurong East library the other day.. I dont remembe the exact words but it was something like ' please use the tables when using laptops'.

I was amused.. but thought maybe it was supposed to mean something else.. so my fren was there switching on her laptop while it was on her lap. Then came along this guy who worked there. Let's call him mr library guy :)

mr library guy told my fren she had to use the tables for the laptops. so i asked WHY? he says.. that's what the sign says.. and its also easier for you to use the tables. and he went away... n of cos as guai pple we went to place the laptop on a table..

if u think about it... what mr library guy said was really weirdd! he asked us to use the table for the laptop... excuse me.. its called a LAPtop!! its SUPPOSED to be used on the lap!! if u dont use it on ur lap... why call it laptop?! why not just term it table top or something?

desktop= placed on desk (impossibly heavy to place anywhere else!)

laptop (attention mr library guy!) = meant to be placed on lap! for convienience

palmtop= placed on your palm to use... unless u want to follow mr library guy's advice and place ur palmtop on the table to use.. in which case... u can call it tabletop too! =)

my point is... d name as a purpose! well at least in these three things it does!! maybe someone should go tell JE library why the laptop is called a laptop...

but... dont ask me why a tube top is not used on a tube instead.. maybe we do look like tubes.. hence the term tube tops.. hmmm come to think of it... i think we do! maybe various sizes and diameters of tubes... but still tubular at the very basic essence... haha
